About JayQuest

Our very first project as Morphiend Games, JayQuest is a 2D roguelike RPG that focuses on turn-based combat mechanics, and progresses through levels, also known as floors. Our main character is the best faculty member at CSUB, Jay Manibo, who uses various abilities given to him by the CIA to defeat monsters that were accidently created in a lab located in Arvin.

Being that the game was for a school project, JayQuest demonstrates the use of software development principles, collaborative workflows, and iterative design. We made sure that JayQuest would be mainly centered around strategic combat across multiple floors. Players engage in encounters where they must select from a variety of abilities, each with unique effects that influence combat outcomes and decision-making. The turn-based system essentially encourages careful planning, requiring players to consider an enemies behavior, resource management, and ability timing in order to succeed. As players advance through different floors, they encounter enemies varying in difficulty, promoting adaptation and strategic variation between runs. The roguelike structure also emphasizes replayability, allowing players to learn from previous attempts, refine their strategies, and track their progress over time. These mechanics work together in hopes to create a gameplay experience that is both challenging and rewarding for the player.

This is the very beginning development of our first game, so we plan on cleaning up a lot of UI and adding additional features soon!
